Summary
Implements, coordinates and reports the day-to-day operations of the afterschool, summer and adult literacy program activities in the assigned Afterschool Center on Education. Responsible for recruitment, training and supervision of diverse volunteers. Works closely with the Project Director, center staff, school staff, community agencies, parents/families, and the students to achieve program goals and objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities
- Ensure program activities promote the health, safety and general well-being of participants and provide high quality educational development opportunities. Provide guidance and positive role modeling to participants.
- Coordinate the implementation of community-based activities with “hands on” site management.
- Recruit, orient and supervise diverse volunteers, ensure that volunteers attend orientation, and conduct regular meetings to facilitate effective communication. Provide guidance and support to build a strong volunteer corp.
- Contribute to the successful operation of the ACE project by:
- Initiating new programs with the approval of the Advisory Committee;
- Promoting and stimulating program participation.
- Build relationships with key school staff
- Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to participants’ needs and interests and reporting to the Project Director.
- Review and adhere to school district and campus rules, policies and procedures, including the campus crisis plan, protocol for reporting abuse, and other pertinent requirements.
- Establish and maintain positive communications with the parents, including parent meetings and written announcements as needed.
- Establish effective communications with the Advisory Committee, including presenting reports both orally and in writing.
- Maintain an inventory of all program equipment and supplies in good order. Recommend repair and/or purchase within budgetary constraints.
- Maintain participant information, attendance, and academic progress in the TEA database comprised of both students and adults, submit paperwork in a timely manner, and prepare accurate statistical reports by deadline dates.
- Establish linkages to the community to promote community involvement and recruit prospective volunteers.
- Participate in the overall function of the CIS-ACE project by attending meetings, working on team projects, and attending training and events.

- Attend all meetings as required
- Continuous professional development and participation in database trainings to enhance knowledge and carry out this role effectively
- Submit status report to Project Director outlining site-specific information
- Ensure the completion of required programmatic reports

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 10-15 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work generally are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in social work, social sciences, psychology, mental health, education or public administration, or a related field, plus at least one year’s experience in education or health or human services field, or five years of equivalent experience.
- Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of Communities In Schools (CIS).
- A strong commitment to the mission of CIS and the value of after-school and summer programs in the academic success of at-risk students.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Must be flexible, a self-starter, and a team player.
- Demonstrate human relations skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse staff, ISD administrators and teachers; provide guidance and support to diverse staff.
- Ability to organize, plan and implement multi-faceted workload; to effectively identify, analyze, and solve problems; to successfully handle conflict resolution.
- Demonstrate communication skills, both verbal and written; speaking experience preferred but willingness to speak in public required.
- Mature judgment to take initiative where appropriate, to recognize and handle confidential matters in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability working with computers and MS Office software, in particular Excel and Word.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and as a member of a team.
- Means of self-transportation during the workday; proof of meeting Texas requirements regarding auto registration, driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
- Willingness to attend out-of-town training and events.
- Demonstrate ability in working with economically disadvantaged children and parents in a school setting.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as budgets, payroll, and daily operations of the program.
Reasoning Ability

- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Knowledge of client groups and/or issues related to the program area.
- Proficiency in the use of computers for: word processing, databases, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet.
